This light chariot for my Scots-Irish actually includes a fig that I had painted before: the rider.
I had her one her own base at first, but I wanted her to be on a chariot, so I painted up the chariot. This is
my third chariot from this line of figs, only one more to go to finish of the Scots-Irish army!

This element is made up of figures I had singly based previously, but I figured I would
include the DBA element version for completeness. Overall, I like the way the figs work together
on a single base.

I painted up these three this past week to get ready for an event at Fallcon. I fielded this army
and its four chariots in a chariot themed tournament. These figures are fun to paint, but it was strangely hard
to motivate myself to paint them even though I sculpted them... or perhaps that's why! I used a sword for the
first time with these figs, and it worked out pretty well. Also, I like the shieldless option for these figs as well.

After doing droves of 1:1 scale real tablet braids over the past year, I decided to do some braided belts
on some figures, thus the colourful belts on two of them. I like the character it adds to the figures and the unit
as a whole.

This element is made up of two figures I had singly based, and one that I painted to round it out.
I like the look of the figs together, and I'm happy with the final look of the element.

The first of two psiloi elements for the army. The girl on the left there must be wealthy... Either that
or she spent all her time and money on the dress and didn't bother with a spear and shield!

Another couple of wealthy slingers!

Another Trey Corbies javelin woman. This is a more running pose. I am pretty happy with it overall. It's
a dynamic figure and the painting went well... The sculpting on the face though... It's not perfect, and it's
not too much different from more than a few 15mm figures, but I might do things differently next time!

Faces in 15mm are pretty tough! This was fun to do (both sculpt an paint), and features my overall queen figure for
my Irish line of figures! I attempted to capture a regal air to her as she leads her Irish women into
battle! I had a lot of tun with this one, especially putting the heads on the chariot, which was a lot
easier than I figured it would be! The skull standard there is my bull skull on the end of a bit of
paper clip, otherwise the figures are all vanilla! This is one of my favourites! One thing to note about this
one is that I didn't dry brush the hound, but highlighted the hairs! In the end, when comparing it to the
other hound I painted, I think dry brushing shows the detail better than highlighting! This is figure is available
to buy over on the Trey Corbies Website.

This is another of my favourites, which I both sculpted and painted here, and I even took the time to do
curly knots on the shield, and they turned out very well I think! Overall, I love
the heroic pose on this one :) Shameless self congratulation, since i sculpted it
myself, but what can I say? I'm quite pleased with this one. This is figure is available
to buy over on the Trey Corbies Website.

This sculpt was based on a very ubiquitous image of a male druid priest, and so I painted
it up in the off-white colours of the painting I used for sculpting inspiration. I'm happy with
it, although I didn't sculpt eyeballs onto it, and so I didn't paint them either! This is figure is available
to buy over on the Trey Corbies Website.

More of a warband type generic figure, I sculpted her with an open hand. She's a warrior class woman,
and so dressed in the historically correct warrior class way. She's one of my favourite figures overall I think,
and could easily be a leader type. Pretty happy with her overall. This is figure is available
to buy over on the Trey Corbies Website.

This pose was inspired by an image of a modern woman throwing the javelin in the olympics. I think it
really captures movement, as she's in the middle part of the motion of throwing the javelin after taking
a running start. Both the javelin and the shield were added to the figure, and the javeling is a paper clip.

This was the second sculpt I did for this line, and I am particularily happy with the hair
in the back. Actually, I am pretty happy with the whole figure, and the paint job :) The shield
and javelin were added to the figure, the javelin being a paper clip. I'm happy with it, and used
a British Celtic design as inspiration for the shield. This is figure is available
to buy over on the Trey Corbies Website.

This is my chariot... My first two horses, my first dog, my first vehicle for the
sculpting side anyway. The hardest thing to sculpt for me on this were the wheels... I am still
not sure what the best way to do the wheels is... Overall though, I am extremely happy with
both my sculpts and paint job on these girls :) The dynamic poses are rare in 15mm historicals.
The movement is really what I like about these figs! The rider there is wearing Irish warriors
outfit (typically for men), and is loosely based on the Morrigan!

The first of three slinger figures for the celtic Irish warrior women from the line
I sculpted. Note that the sling is supposed to be spinning... It's in the correct position
if it was a snap shot sorta deal; htey wouldn't let me sculpt a disc to show a spinning sling!
But, it works I think. It was fun to paint!

This is my favourite, and I think it looks a lot like Ray Davies, lead singer of the Kinks... I was
listening to a lot of Kinks at the time! Still, I am happy with the character in the face and the
slinging pose! It painted up pretty well also.

This is the re-load pose! Placing the stone and looking for a good target! Overall, I am very happy
with these figs!

This is the my first figure that I have sculpted, had cast, and painted! Myself along
with a couple of buddies have done a line of Scots-Irish fighting females, which should
be released soon! She was fun to paint for sure.

A scale picture for reference; everyone asks, so here it is!

Scots-Irish Army  -  Posted: Nov 17, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
My Irish all assembled and ready for battle! Lead by the fearless Morrigan!

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 17, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
I wanted to do a female hero for this army, as females figure prominently in Irish warfare.
It's a pity that nobody has female warriors for this range. This one specifically I sculpted
myself! (you can see the green in the greens gallery). Again with the painted shield. I still
might string the reigns on the horses as well, if so I'll update the picture!

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 17, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Old Glory Miniatures
I had a few extra figs (these are all Old Glory) so I figured I would do a warband
general option. I did a poor sculpting job on that bull's skull there, and note how
out of scale it is with the bulls horn horn instrument held by the musician there. But it
works. I went with painted shields as well because they look good :)

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 17, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
More yellow and black action. More Celtic knot work. Not the
fig on the right of the element is not Essex, but Old Glory. Side by
side they don't look too bad, but you can see the extra blocky-chunkiness of the
Old Glory fig.

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 17, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
The fig in the middle is my favourite pose, and I really wanted to do it in red
at least once, so here it is. More knots on the shields.

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 17, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
Yet another set of 3Ax figs, a little red, black and yellow. More red, but it
fits in the context of the army. Again with the knotted shields, and some tryst
action on the boss-less shield.

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 3, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
More black and white bees from Ulster! And a new shield design with a celtic feel.
One knot work shield as well. I reduced the blob effect on the stripes by thickening
them slightly, and also taking the time to go back and touch them up. Pretty happy with
these figs, although I must admit, the black and yellow scheme is getting a bit tenuous!
The things I do for historical accuracy!

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 3, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
I had to add some blue to the mix! It's still historically feasible apparently and
compliments the red hair well! Also,
still with the thicker stripes on the tunics and the knot work and three twirl shields.

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 3, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
A red tunic! Again, it is also historically feasible, and a close up of the new shield
design.

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Nov 3, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
So, this element is where I learned than the thicker the stripes, the better! Not the
red-headed fig on the outside, the back has the thin stripes, and the front has thicker
ones. Again with the blue jacket there.

A 3-Auxalia element for the Scot-Irish army. The army consists of nine of these
elements all together, along with two Psiloi and a chariot or warband. Not the
fairly monochrome colours: yellow, black, off-white. According to ancient Irish
laws, the lower classes were only allowed to wear those three colours. There were
some exceptions apparently. Also worth note in this elements is the presence of the
dubiously historically accurate wicker shield (far left). Although its historical
accuracy has been doubted, it seems that this shield type is such a part of the
ancient Irish image that you can't do without it!

15mm Scots-Irish  -  Posted: Oct 20, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
I like this stand a lot with the freehand shields. Simple, yet effective
designs. Here I also have a warrior in a green tunic, which some would argue
isn't all that accurate. Still, others would say it is and I should couldn't
bring myself to use only yellow and black!

Scots-Irish Warriors  -  Posted: Oct 20, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
A couple psiloi in the standard balck, white and yellow sorta colours.
Note the lack of shield designs on these poor fighters.

Scots-Irish Warriors  -  Posted: Oct 20, 2008  -  Manufacturer: Essex Miniatures
Another set of Psiloi, completing the two psiloi elements for the
army. Again with the green tunic. These are some pretty wealthy psiloi
considering their garb, but it's likely because they just beat up and stole
the clothes off of some Linster types :)
