Plastic Easterling Warriors  -  Posted: January 23, 2012  -  Manufacturer: Games Workshop
The whole group of Easterlings that I painted up. Over all, these figs
are excellent, a joy to paint, and I'm happy with the way they turned out.

The archers are pretty cool in design. I really like those quivers. They boast
the same well-executed designs and styles as the costume designed for the movies.
Easterling Spearmen  -  Posted: January 23, 2012  -  Manufacturer: Games Workshop
The spearmen are nice. The only issue I have is with the tiny eye holes that
don't realistically expose enough surface in the eye area to properly paint... I like
the dynamic - but not too dynamic - pose too.

I imagine they based this figure on the green from the Warriors of Minas Tirith
box set :) It's spiffy none-the-less.

Another dynamic - but not too dynamic - Easterling spear warrior pose. I'm
pretty happy with these.

Another archetypal bowman pose here. Games Workshop really did a good job
adding bowmen to WETA's vision of the Easterlings.

The final bowman archetypal pose. Pretty snazzy.

These old spearmen were paointed up around 2005... My painting style
was very similar back then, the only real difference is the contrast in the
highlights; my new figs are much brighter because I bring the highlights much higher.
In fact, almost all the colours on the originals start with the same base colour as
as the new figs.

This is the last of my first commission. Just have to say that
this figs is not good. Some sloppy sculpting, likely rushed, makes painting the
details a little hard... Hard to believe GW can get away with selling figs like this!
Still, once painted up it turned out quite well!

The Kataphrakt Captain. I imagined that the Captain
would have coloured tassles to denote rank. I went with
white because it didn't really introduce a new colour, and
white is the traditional colour of the wealthy (because only
the wealthy can afford to pay someone to keep it clean!).

Another kataphrakt here!

The first Easterling Kataphrakt to come off the line.
Took some time to work that metal a bit better than
I have so far, as well as blending the black on the horse
a bit more completely. Pretty happy with this fig. Unfortunately
I can't take a picture to save my life, so the highlights on the
lighter colours aren't really visible, including the pattern on the
back of the neck.
This is easily my favorite Easterling.
I took extra time to do the eyes on these as
you may notice... Also, ever since I painted
those alternate knights of Dol Amroth, I have
been unable to do slack paint jobs... as a
result it takes so much longer to paint.
Anyway, I hope you agree the extra effort is worth it
