The Anglo-Danes are a must have for any Viking age action in England. They were a primary player and it was their defeat at hastings which essentially ended the Viking age. Like the vikings, this army is a pretty mono element type army, being mostly spear with three blade elements and an option for a psiloi element. Unlike the vikings, it's mostly spear, but different from the all spear Anglo Saxon army list!
The figures were a pleasure to paint, as with all Khurasan miniatures I've managed to get my hands on. The spearmen are all business, and carry a great character as well. The greater fyrd look it with their lack of enthusiasm to get into the thick of battle. The select fyrd are in attacking poses, which are great for the front ranks. The general figure is one of my all time favourites as well, with the not over dramatized dramatic pose! Excellent set of figs overall!

The entire III/71 Anglo-Danish army assembled on the field of battle!

Any way you look at it, this is going to be messy! I imagine at this point
someone should suggest a potluck and everyone should drop their weapons and break out
their instruments! The Normans charge down on the English shieldwall!

The Anglo-Danish chief or king. This figure makes a good Harold Godwinson, or any
other English King or chief. I like the dramatic but not over-dramatized pose a lot.
The banner is cool too; I've never seen a banner like that. I didn't have to replace the
banner pole on that figure either because I attached it to the top of the bearer's helment.

The Anglo-Danish elite housecarls (4Bd) with their Danish great axes. I pity the Norman
spearmen charged with running up a hill into battle with these guys!

Another element of housecarls with great axes. These two elements make up the
king's guard and standing army. I painted them with brighter colours than their
greater fyrd counterparts given the status and looting opportunities!

The first element of select fyrd. These are the more well to do land owners
who have more money for better gear than their greater fyrd counterparts. Newer
skite shields, chain mail, more helments... It all means they live longer and gain
more experience, not to mention more looting opportunities!

Another element of the select fyrd. I went with variations on the cross and simpler
shield designs from the period to differentiate these figures from Normans of the same
period. I like how these figures have more dynamic poses than the greater fyrd from
this line. They are based in a way to make them most likely to line up with other elements.

More select fyrd for the Anglo-Danes.

The last of the four elements of Anglo-Danish select fyrd!

The first of the greater fyrd. For the shield designs I went with the popular designs. For the
most part they were variations on the cross theme, with a few viking-ish designs thrown in (like
the green and yellow shield second from the right). Overall, very fun to paint up, and quick.
The figs themselves have a lot of character.

More greater fyrd. The shield designs again variations on crosses, with some earlier designs
thrown in for good measure. For the colour scheme, I was greatly inspired by the multi-based
English pictured in the Warhammer Ancient Battles Shieldwall book; an excellent execution in
there and excellent presentation, which was inspiring.

More crosses displayed on the shields in this one. One of the fyrd managed to get their hands
on one of the newer kite shields as well! He even has a helmet, lucky him!

More greater fyrd. The army has five elements (20 figures), and Khurasan has four poses
for these, which works pretty well for DBA Anglo-Danish elements such as those depicted here.

The last element of the poorly-equiped greater fyrd for the Anglo-Danes. Overall very
fun and fast to put together these figures were!
