I am also doing a second Andalusian church raiding camp, and need to paint some figs for
it. Here is the celebrating Andalusian that will be on the base along with a bell
toting pack mule when that one comes together! This fig is part of the Old Glory
miniatures Andalusian command pack. The flag and flag pole are modelled after the original,
but are not the original; strop paperclip for the pole and paper for the flag.
This camp is is the 'away' camp for my
Andalusian DBA army. This is the first time I actually built a home and away camp
for an army, and I like it :) This scene is
loosely based on an image from the Warhammer Ancients Battles
El Cid book. The scene depicts the Andalusian 'camp followers' raiding the bells from a church
somewhere in christian Spain! The bells are brass bells from the craft store.
Note the somewhat open area at the front right, it was left that way to allow for
a fortifying element to place placed there if need be.
This is the same camp including a fortifying spear element.
This is the home camp for my
Andalusian DBA army. Fashioned after one of the many walled cities
in Andalusia, it is a basic camp design. The camp followers in this case are the
concerned citizens on the walls watching the battle! The guy in the striped
robe looks disdainfully on the left side, while two budding 'armchair tacticians'
(or in this case, 'rampart tacticians') make predictions on how the battle will
go on the right side! I am pretty happy with this camp. Note that i left the wall
above the gates empty for fortification.
Here is the home camp along with a fortifying element of spearmen.

With this army I wanted to go beyond with freehand shields. I am pretty happy with how it turned out!

This one was fun because it was the last element I painted. I tried to go into more
interesting designs for the shields to mixed effect. But it is a nice way to end the army!

The last light horse unit for this army! I went with a more monochrome colour scheme here
because I thought the rest of the army was getting a bit too blue :) I like it!

With this unit I had to try to out do the previous unit of 4Sp. So, some more
variation in colour as well as some more interesting shield and cloth designs.
Not that the shield on the far right in the picture actually reads 'merciful'
in Arabic - as in, may Alah be merciful on your soul when I send you to him!

These stands/elements are pretty easy and quick to paint so I took extra time on the details, obviously!

More horse, this time light horse (2Lh). I continued with the same theme... That shield wasn't
as big as the other mounded figs that I painted, so a little less detail... Also, the clothes on
the mounted figs is tougher to do because there is less surface area and it is oddly bunched. Still, I'm pretty
happy with the outcome.

I like the idea of using bows instead of slings for my psiloi/skirmishers because
it implies they would be somewhat wealthier. That was I can have an excuse to paint the
clothing with more details! I really like these skirmishing elements!

My second element of cavalry, my third element for the Andalusians. I like it!
I sculpted that dead viking there completely from scratch. For my first 15mm
sculpt I am very happy with it :) Note that the shields are all freehand! Also
for these ones, I gave them the traditional javelins. I did it using paper clips
and plasticard for the spears. I also simply snipped off the hands and resculpted them.
They turned out pretty well so far!

I decided to do the 3Cv general next. I spent some extra, extra time on
this element because it was the general... I am glad I did the 15mm mounted
viking first as well, it let me make a lot of mistakes on a fig that didn't
count ;) When putting this stand together, I wanted to do something a little
different from the three forward-facing cavalry figs. Thankfully the figs
themselves were in characterful poses, all looking to the right, and so, configuring
them the way I did I made it possible for people to see those horses, as well as
having a themed positioning! I am very happy with this element!

I really like the Andalusians, so I realized that I would eventually
get around to painting up some more! I took some time and tried to do a better
job on these than I did on my
DBA Vikings. These ones are closely based on the
28mm Andalusians I have already done.
