A large unit of 30 viking hirdmen or huscarls, the king's guard, or standing army. Oddly, at the time of putting this army together, I painted mostly the medium-armoured free men, and only a single unit of these hirdmen... Anyway, as you can see I took much less time on the shields than I currently do, but I enjoyed it as much at the time all the same! Here's another example of how I didn't have the patients to paint both sides of the banner!
