Bretonnian Lord on Magpie Hippogriff - King Louen Leoncoeur  -  Posted: November 16, 2025  -  Manufacturer: Games Workshop
The figure is the original metal Louen Leoncoeur, which I happened to get cheap off of my favourite
internet auction website. I had been mulling over what hippogriff to put him on. Some people put him on
that Imperial Griffon, some on the Age of Sigmar Lord-Aquilor, but to me those were too big. I wanted
something a big smaller, more along the lines of the old Warhammer hippogriff, that's when I saw the
Vanguard-Palladors. They were a little big, and didn't have wings, but they looked great otherwise!
Converting this King I had to cover up the Age of Sigmar iconography, which was easy with a few of those
little shields from the Bretonnian Knights of the Realm box. Then I had to sculpt on the saddle to get the
smaller King figure to fit, and then also attach the wings! The wings are the same metal wings from the 90s
that were also used on the eagles, and many other flying figures back then.
Finally, I had to figure out how to get the plastic figure to hold up the four pounds of metal on top of it
(the wings and the king himself). The original model had a single contact point on one of the back hooves,
which was just not going to do it! I was able to stabilize it with a single paperclip into the front-left
talon... but how could I cover up the added support paperclip?!? And then it hit me: use cat tails and have the
hippogriff jumping over a pond! I love the idea, and also it added a lot of extra painting and hobby time...
